VDO.Ninja Integration

Use Meshcast to offload bandwidth and stabilize VDO.Ninja rooms with WebRTC relay.

Quick Navigation

Overview

Meshcast can act as a relay for VDO.Ninja, reducing room bandwidth while keeping latency low. When you enable Meshcast, participants publish via WebRTC (WHIP) and viewers receive via WebRTC (WHEP) through Meshcast servers.

Free on VDO.Ninja

Anonymous publishing is allowed only from meshcast.io and vdo.ninja. OBS or third-party embeds require a registered account.

Free access and fair use

Meshcast offers generous, but limited, free relay access for VDO.Ninja. Anonymous usage is shared by everyone on the same public IP address, so other publishers on your network use the same allowance.

Free access is best-effort, with fair-use limits that may change. If your network reaches its limit, new Meshcast streams and reconnects can be blocked. No fixed anonymous allowance is guaranteed.

Use a free account

Create a free Meshcast account or sign in with Google or Discord. No payment card is required.

Publishing with your account's Publish Key uses your account allowance instead of the shared anonymous IP allowance. Creating an account alone does not change an existing anonymous stream. Account limits still apply; check your dashboard for usage and your plan for allowances.

  1. Copy a Publish Key Open Stream Keys in your Meshcast dashboard and copy the private Publish Key for the stream you want to use.
  2. Add it to your VDO.Ninja publishing link Use &meshcast2=YOUR_PUBLISH_KEY instead of anonymous &meshcast. Keep your existing room, push ID and other options.
    https://vdo.ninja/alpha/?room=YOUR_ROOM&push=YOUR_STREAM_ID&meshcast2=pk_YOUR_PUBLISH_KEY
  3. Start publishing Viewers use your normal VDO.Ninja room or viewing link. They do not need your Publish Key. Account-key support described here is available in the current alpha.

Keep Publish Keys private: anyone with one can publish using that stream and consume its owner's allowance. Use a separate key for each simultaneous publisher. Simultaneous camera and screen publishing also needs a separate key in &meshcast2screen=YOUR_SCREEN_PUBLISH_KEY, subject to your plan's stream limits.

Signing in to Meshcast does not automatically sign VDO.Ninja in. For now, use the Publish Key method above. There is no need to give guests your account login or an account-management API token.

Enable Meshcast in VDO.Ninja

  1. Open your VDO.Ninja room Add &meshcast to your VDO.Ninja URL.
    https://vdo.ninja/?room=your-room&meshcast
  2. Publish as normal Start your camera or screen share. VDO.Ninja routes the stream through Meshcast automatically.
  3. Share the room link Viewers can join the room link and receive the Meshcast stream.

Meshcast 2.0 parameters

Current VDO.Ninja alpha routes &meshcast through Meshcast 2.0. Use &meshcast2=YOUR_PUBLISH_KEY for account-based publishing.

An invalid account key does not silently switch to anonymous access. The current integration uses Publish Keys; the older mc_... token instructions do not apply to this path.

Using Web Studio + VDO.Ninja

If you publish from Meshcast Web Studio (meshcast.io/studio), you can still share the VDO.Ninja viewer link for collaboration. Meshcast handles WebRTC publishing and WHEP playback automatically.
